STRAWBSWEBNEWS - OCTOBER 2008

Sent: 22 Oct 2008

Here's your Strawbswebnews for October - apologies for missing out on the
e-mail last month - just too busy with work and other stuff.

After a glut of album/DVD releases in the last few months, it's mainly live

TONIGHT !!!
DAVE COUSINS & THE BLUE ANGEL ORCHESTRA WITH MELVIN DUFFY
22 OCT 2008 - HALF MOON, PUTNEY
=========================================================

One not to be missed. The show at the Half Moon Putney on 22 Oct has a
slightly different line-up for the BAO - Miller Anderson has other
commitments and is replaced by Melvin Duffy, the steel/Hawaiian guitarist
who was featured on Dave's stunning solo album Secret Paths earlier this
year.

The support act will be Dave and Melvin, a unique opportunity to catch the
duo who made Secret Paths such a memorable album. Melvin has played with
Robbie Williams as part of his band for three years (including Knebworth).
He's also part of Robbie MacIntosh's band on a regular basis.

==============================================================

ROY HILL - 7 NOV, TURKS HEAD, TWICKENHAM
========================================

The rescheduled date for the Roy solo gig. See Roy brave the high trapeze
without a net. Marvel at his lyrical wizardry. Be amazed by his guitar
solos ("Eric Clapton taught me that") .....

It'll be very good though ....

(And don't forget the 2008 CRY NO MORE Christmas show - 27 Dec, the Turks
Head, Twickenham also.

====================================
STRAWBS CHRISTMAS PARTY - 6 DEC 2008
====================================

GOOD OLD BOYS
-------------

We've already announced that Hud's band the Good Old Boys are headlining
this year's Christmas Party. Including Nick Simper from the original Deep
Purple line-up, Pete Parks (Warhorse, Fandango) and Alan Barratt (Jo Jo
Gunne) and Simon Bishop (High Society).

I'm delighted to announce two new confirmed additions to the guest list:

THE STRAWBERRY FOOLS
--------------------
A new "supergroup" drawn entirely from your Witchwood chums:
David Claridge - guitar, vocals
Les Cotton - bass
Dick Greener - guitar, vocals
Peter Rand - keyboards
Ralph Tonge - guitar, vocals

All five are frequent contributors all to the Fan Downloads page of
StrawbsWeb - there's been a lot of action there recently, check it out at:

http://www.strawbsweb.co.uk/@f/f_fdlds.htm

They are also stalwarts of the two Bilston Strawberry Mousse strumalong
events (amongst others of course, but we can't fit ALL of the Mousses on
stage!).

The Fools will be bringing you Strawbs songs from the Strawbs repertoire
which don't often see the light of day in live shows, be they acoustic or
electric. A picture of the group will shortly be available on Strawbsweb.
Be very very frightened .... I know we are !

WYCHWOOD
--------
aka Kevin West and Lindsay Hemphill, who have already contributed a
fabulous cover of the Sandy Denny/Strawbs classic "Who Knows Where The Time
Goes", which we can expect to hear live. Wychwood have been building up a
following in the Banbury area, where they are based.

There'll be more news to follow on the Christmas Party.

RELEASE NEWS
============

John Ford's new CD Big Hit In India is reportedly on its way.

No news as yet regarding Brian and Cathryn's new CD Surrender.

==================
STRAWBMEISTER QUIZ
==================

And finally ....

To while away the huors when you should be working (!), try this great quiz
put together by Cliff and Simone - some really fantastic graphics and some
pretty tricky questions.
