STRAWBSWEBNEWS AUGUST 2009 - PART 3

Sent by Dick Greener: 20 Aug 2009

Hello everyone
Sorry to bombard you with multiple e-mails this month (I normally try to keep to one or at most two), but as we approach the 40th anniversary event, there's news on that and other things to pass on.
Big news is of course the Classic Rock Legends tour with Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash and Focus. See details below.

Do keep your pictures coming in for the galleries of those coming to the show and absent friends. Owing to workload in my day job, I'm a little behind in getting these done, so my apologies - they should get loaded in the next few days. Send them to dick.greener@o2.co.uk (keep the file sizes reasonable please!)

40TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS
=====================
Fred Wedlock - compere
----------------------
Delighted to announce that Dave Cousins' old mate from his West Country days, Fred Wedlock, has agreed to be the compere for the 40th anniversary event.
Programme & stuff
-----------------
There will be a programme for this event - I know - we had to write 250 words about the Strawberry Fools and provide a band photo (sorry!)
As well as CDs and DVDs of course, there'll also be various other bits and pieces including a poster organised by Canadian fan Jon Connolly, helped by artist Angela Taylor.
Jon is coming over for the event and is involved in the filming.
Fan gallery
-----------
Do keep your pictures coming in for the galleries of those coming to the show and absent friends. Owing to workload in my day job, I'm a little behind in getting these done, so my apologies - they should get loaded in the next few days.
Food supplement
---------------
I'm also told that, as well as the various restaurants, there's a good value restaurant in the Tesco superstore just 5 minutes away from the venue.

REVIEWS OF DANCING TO THE DEVIL'S BEAT / HAMPTON COURT DVD
==========================================================
There are a few reviews and comments on the new CD and DVD which have started arriving with pre-release purchasers ahead of the official release date of 24 August. These will be posted very shortly.
There's also been a good raft of press/online reviews - including Classic Rock - Prog, Bournemouth Echo, the Scottish Sunday Post, the October issue of Guitar and Bass, the Classic Rock Society's magazine, to name but a few.
I'm hoping to add a few of these to Strawbsweb shortly. Meanwhile check out: Stuart Hamilton - http://blogcritics.org/music/article/music-review-strawbs-dancing-to-the/
There'll be an album review in the next issue of R2/Rock'N'Reel and apparently a track will be on the next CD covermount.
Various interviews/features in the pipeline .....

* AND FINALLY - STRAWBS ON THE MENU
===================================
Blue Weaver sends in a menu from "a special night of Strawbs music" held in a restaurant in Spain, in which he participated with a local musician who "does a great cover of" Dave Cousins .... the due called themselves "Los Fresons".
The menu reads:
Starter - Caviar, oysters and pate de foie
"And caviar, oysters and pate de foie invite the discerning tongue"
Main course - Lamb, Salmon or Omelette
"To catch the mirrored salmon as it rose to take the fly"
"New born lambs that sweetly played, Speckled eggs all newly laid"
Sweet - Lemon Pie
"Lovely lemon lady, you make me feel so shy
But lovely lemon lady, I love your lemon pie."
Nice one Blue !! Image coming shortly on Strawbsweb.
