STRAWBS - HERO & HEROINE IN ASCENCIA
====================================

.. is the title for the recordings of the Hero & Heroine material by the most recent line-up in November last year.

It's expected to be released in April, in good time for the May Electric UK tour.

There's a near-final cover on the front page of the site. More details, track listings and preview to follow.

=======================
ACOUSTIC STRAWBS UPDATE
=======================

Details at: http://www.acousticfestival.co.uk/

Maltby correction and updated giglist
-------------------------------------

In January's Strawbswebnews, there was an error - the gig at The Rock, Maltby does take place on 8 April, but it's a Friday, not a Thursday - well done, eagle eyed Andy Slack for spotting that.

Updated list
------------

Saturday 5 March, TBA, Isle of Man,
Sunday 6 March, TBA, Isle of Man,
Friday 11 March, Mission Theatre, Bath
Saturday 19 March, Village Hall, St Mary Bourne
Sunday 27 March, Nordern Farm, Maidenhead
Wednesday 30 March, Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich
Friday 8 April, The Rock, Maltby
Friday 15 April, The Hat Factory, Luton

Other Acoustics updates
-----------------------

Early warning of another Acoustics gig coming up in June:

===========================
COUSINS & CUTLER RIDE AGAIN
===========================

Early warning too of a rare opportunity to see Dave play as a duo with fiddler supreme, Ian Cutler on Friday 3 June at the Kentish Horse Festival in Edenbridge. More details in due course.

=========================
ROY HILL/CRY NO MORE NEWS
=========================

Switzerland not yet finished
----------------------------
Roy comments that "The mastered version of Switzerland revealed some previously unheard hiss and rather too much evidence of my primitive production techniques. In theory, you can't get hiss on a digital recording but I managed it." Net result is a little more tweaking. Roy solemnly promises that next month's newsletter will refer to Switzerland in the past tense.

Roy Hill and Steve Whalley
Live at the Ram Jam CD
--------------------------
Roy comments " This will be an altogether quicker affair as two track recording gives very limited scope for tinkering. Projected release date March 2018. However, more cheerfully, we enjoyed the last gig so much we're going to do another..."

Roy Hill and Steve Whalley
Live at the Ram Jam Sunday 6 March
----------------------------------
Featuring Steve's inimitable acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin and ukulele stylings. Roy says "He's a better singer than me too so I'll try to keep his vocals to a bare minimum."

Doors open at 6pm. Showtime 7-10.
Admission £5.
The Ram Jam Club at The Grey Horse, 46 Richmond Road, Kingston upon Thames KT2 5EE

Cry No More as you've never seen them before
--------------------------------------------
It's a way off but on Sunday 1 May Cry No More return to the The Royal Oak in Hampton to play an evening of cover versions. Cover versions! What larks!

TOP OF THE POPS ...
===================

For fans of those "Top Of The Pops" cover version albums, which included Strawbs material from time to time - there's a page dedicated to them at:

=============================
SUMMERHOUSE RECORDS/FRIENDS
=============================

Forgive me if I pass on some non-Strawbs-related info from time to time.

Some of you may know that from time to time I've assisted fellow Strawbs fan William Jones with his Summerhouse Records website which features his band Friends and various other band signed to the label (some of whom went to school with me in Stockton-on-Tees!). William used to work in the 80s at Stockton's Dovecot Arts Centre - opposite Radio Tees where our own Mr Cousins was station controller. (The Dovecot was also the venue of the first live gig I ever played, as one half of a folk duo !)

I particularly like the Friends stuff, and maybe other Strawbs fans will as well. There are quite a few MP3 clips to listen to on the site by way of a trial.

Summerhouse currently has a sale on until 27 February where nearly all the prices have been reduced substantially. You can buy online and pay by Paypal, or order from William via a print order form (sorry, no credit cards).

Check out www.summerhouserecords.co.uk

William has also started a blog, which features, amongst other things, an article on Jonathan Kelly (who toured with Strawbs on their 1972 Grave New World tour) and Hudson Ford.

http://fromthesummerhouse.wordpress.com

And finally, there's also a rare opportunity to see Friends live in the UK at the Half Moon in Putney on 15 March. Their other gigs are in Berlin, Osaka and Tokyo ! Tickets for the Half Moon from the venue ( www.halfmoon.co.uk) or e-mail Summerhouse if any difficulties. £4 in advance, £5 on the door. Friends should be on sometime after 9.30pm.
