TOP OF THE POPS - 373, 1971 (*)

Both sides are in mono.

This transcription disc included Strawbs' "New World" and "Benedictus"; another transcription disc Pick Of The Pops For Your DJ - 373 included only the track "Benedictus".

There is some confusion about when the tracks were recorded and transmitted. Ken Garner's "In Session Tonight" lists two sessions where these two tracks were recorded:

  • 10 Nov 1971, transmitted on 13 Dec 1971 - other tracks recorded on this session were "The Journey's End", "The Flower And The Young Man" and "On Growing Older".
  • 12 Jan 1972, transmitted 20 Jan 1972 on Pete Drummond's show, apart from Benedictus which went out on 9 Mar 1972 - other tracks recorded were "The Flower And The Young Man", "Is It Today Lord" and "Tomorrow".
  • However the Discogs notes suggest that the tracks were recorded at T1 Kensington House, London, UK on 30 Nov 1971 and broadcast on Bob Harris Sounds of the 70s on 12 Dec 1971.

2010's Strawbs At The BBC Volume 1 list both tracks with a recording date of 30 Nov 1971.

Discogs gives a release date of 30 Dec 1971
