AMAZING
(A&M Holland, 85 398 XT, 1971 (probably))
Yet another early A&M various artists album, this time from Holland including the Antiques & Curios (1970) version of "Where Is This Dream Of Your Youth". The Gary Wright track appeared on his 1971 album Extraction, so I'm guessing early 1971 for this.

(2LP, Ariola 86 165 XT 1971)
Lavish 4 x LP size foldout with cover band pictures and pictures of album sleeves. Of interest to Strawbs fans, "Where Is This Dream Of Your Youth" (Antiques version), plus a track from Fairweather (featuring Blue Weaver) and "3D Mona Lisa" from Paul Brett, one time member of Velvet Opera, alongside Hud and John, who also played on Dragonfly.

SINGLES DIGEST
(King Records, DY4701-1)
Strange bedfellows in this early test pressing of a "singles digest" which A&M's Japanese distributor King Record produced. The Strawbs track here is John Ford's "Thirty Days" released as a single only in Japan.
OST - Red Sun
OST - Le Petit Matin
OST - 13 Jours Enn France
OST - Sunrise, Sunset
Caudine (sic) Longet - Sunrise, Sunset
Mantovani & His Orchestra - Sunrise, Sunset
Strawbs - Thirty Days

Dalida - Mary Blue
Santi - Danza Napolitana (from Jewels of Madonna)
Win & Andrea - Good Morning Asahi Hi
THAT LOVIN FEELING
(8-trk, A&M UK, catalog number obscured, 1972?)
A recent surprise to find this, an 8-track collection, including Strawbs' "Benedictus". The label lists all the tracks, each with an 8-track catalogue number, so I think this is an early 8-track sampler to promote releases in this new format, all produced in green cases by Precision Tapes in A&M's hehalf.
Difficult to date this - many of the tracks are from an earlier period, newly released on 8-track. The Strawbs track was recorded in 1971 and released as a single in 1971 and on album in Feb 1972. The Humble Pie track comes from a 1972 release and the Frampton's Camel track didn't get released until 1973. My guess is that this was in 1972 and the Frampton release got slightly delayed - by 1973 "Part Of The Union" fever would have set in and I can't see A&M picking "Benedictus" at that point.
Program A
Quincy Jones - Theme From Ironside

TOP HITS INTERNATIONAL
(Ariola, Germany, 1972 86 624 IT)
A strange mix of the well-known and the arcane. "Lay Down" is the Strawbs cut, but there's also a Visconti-produced T Rex track and a track from Dave Cousins' hero, Lonnie Donegan. Picture on Strawbs on the cover is slightly anachronistic, the Blue Weaver joining pic, including Tony Hooper, rather than Dave Lambert.

Parchment - Light Up The Fire
Proudfoot - Delta Queen
Gallery - I Believe In Music
Lonnie Donegan - Speak To The Sky

A&M SPECIAL EDITION SAMPLER (A&M Presents the Heart of Rock Music)
(A&M Japan, DY-5208, 1973 ??)
A nice double album Japanese production - A&M really did these things rather well. The copy I have is a white label so no dates (all the text except the titles are in Japanese), but I guess from the inclusion of the Esperanto track and the Supertramp track, both released in 1973, that it was another 1973 compilation. Only one Strawbs track "Temperament Of Mind".

A&M - FIRST TEN YEARS, VOL 6 HARD ROCK
(2LP, A&M AMW 61/62, Japan, 1973)
A lavish Japanese production, celebrating A&M's tenth anniversary in early 1973. Four Strawbs tracks ("Part Of The Union" and 3 tracks from and three Rick Wakeman tracks (half of the Six Wives album) make this 2 LP set of interest to Strawbs fans.
The album sleeve has a cut out to show the band scene, and there's a lavishly illustrated LP sized Japanese language booklet detailing the history of A&M to that date (as far as I can see, sadly, without mentioning Strawbs!) No Obi on my copy, but it seems other volumes had them.
Other known titles in the series include Vol 7. (Singer Songwriter - see below), Vol 9 ("Live Recordings" - see below), Vol 5 ("Soft Rock") which features labelmates The Carpenters , The Sandpipers and The Flying Burrito Brothers, amongst others.

(2LP: A&M AMW 67/68, Japan, 1973)
Same lavish Japanese production as above, the album sleeve has a cut out to show underlying picture of Bacharach. No booklet in my copy, as there was with Vol 6 above. Not one but two Obi's - the left hand Obi extends to the back, the second is a small strip which only goes round the front cover of the gatefold sleeve. However, less for Strawbs fans here - just "Where Is This Dream Of Your Youth" from Antiques And Curios. Inside there's a Strawbs pic (bottom left) of Bursting At The Seams line-up.
The Burt Bacharach side has recording credits: The Tokyo Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, arranged and conducted by Bacharach, recorded at The Kosei Nenkin Hall, Tokyo, 1 May 1971. Production by Bacharach and Phil Ramone (!). No indication of the source of other recordings (unless they are in the back of Obi text).
