WITCHWOOD MEDIA TO RELEASE WATERSONS' YORKSHIRE CHRISTMAS ALBUM
===============================================================

On 6 Nov Witchwood will release this unique album - the first
non-Strawbs-related to be announced (but not the last - watch the space).

'A Yorkshire Christmas', a documentary in song, stories and dialect, is a
unique historic record of Christmas at the turn of the 20th century. The
inimitable Watersons sing various Christmas songs, interwoven with
inimitable dialect stories and readings from Kit Calvert MBE from Hawes,
the saviour of Wensleydale cheese, and other contributors - Mabel Race from
Liverton Mines, who was in her nineties when the programme was made, and
Norman Benson from Whitby.

'A Yorkshire Christmas' is a priceless reminder of a long-gone era.

The songs for 'A Yorkshire Christmas' are the last recordings made together
as a group by the Watersons - Norma, Lal and Mike Waterson, and Martin
Carthy. They were recorded in December 1980 at Crathorne Hall in North
Yorkshire for a Radio Tees programme produced by David Cousins, who had
then traded in the Strawbs for a career in broadcasting.

The Watersons are England's premier singing family and their recordings
played a hugely influential role in the British folk music revival. The
group released five studio albums – 'Frost and fire', 'A Yorkshire
garland', 'For pence and spicy ale', 'Sound, sound your instruments of
joy', and the last 'Green fields', recorded in April 1980.
