Hi folks - as end June and July is going to be pretty frenetic for me,
here's a second batch of Strawbs information this month, ahead of the
release of Dave's fantastic solo album.
Some Blue Angel Orchestra news, and a one off show for Dave and Ian Cutler
Looking forward to the e-mail from one of my proofreaders (hi Ian, Ali,
Lindsay) that I've got something wrong again [grin].
Bye for now.
* The Boy In The Sailor Suit
* Cousins and Cutler
* A night at the Blue Angel 2/Christmas party
* Myspace yourspace
* Canadian dates
* Strawbs live dates for remainder of 2007
THE BOY IN THE SAILOR SUIT
Dave Cousins has been doing various radio interviews with stations round
the country to promote "Boy", which is released on 25 June.
Look out for an interview with Roger 'Twiggy' Day that will go out shortly
across the BBC Southern stations. An interview with the Durbervilles on
BBC Leeds is coming up too. And in the States there's been a radio
interview in Rochester - see http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007706140306.
Don't forget that, if you buy it through Witchwood Records' online shop
(price £12.99), you'll get two free unreleased Dave Cousins MP3 demo tracks
to download: "Virgin Mother" and "Judgment Day".
Go to - http://tinyurl.com/3acspk (which will take you
to the very long URL for the page on WWR's online shop where you can buy Boy In
The Sailor Suit).
COUSINS AND CUTLER
A one off date with Dave Cousins and Ian Cutler playing together is
scheduled for 6 Nov 2007, at the Medway Folk Cellar. Venue details:
Medway Folk Cellar, Central Theatre, Chatham, Kent 01634 338338
A NIGHT AT THE BLUE ANGEL 2/CHRISTMAS PARTY
This show is scheduled for 3 November at the Astor Theatre in Deal.
It will feature the Blue Angel Orchestra and sundry other delights, (as yet
unannounced; you will recall last year's event included a transsexual
magician and a transvestite torch singer - top that!).
The Blue Angel Orchestra will also be playing at the Strawbs Christmas
Party on 8 December.
Expect to hear some of the new songs on The Boy In The Sailor Suit
There are likely to be some other dates for the BAO, but these are not
confirmed as yet. News as and when I have it.
There's a rash of Myspace websites breaking out for Strawbs, members and
related bands. Generally these have been set up on their behalf by
someone else, so don't assume that signing on you'll be talking to "the
man". But check them out anyway - there's MP3 tracks to listen to and you
can get into the whole Myspace "social" phenomenon - like a trip into
Savernake forest (aka the witchwood) you may never come out again......
Cry No More
Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera
Cathryn Craig & Brian Willoughby
And as well as all those (sorry if I've missed anyone out) there are
countless Witchwooder/Strawbs fans' MySpace sites as well - marvel at their
photos, stare in wonderment at the interesting (and in some cases
downright lunatic) folks who've hooked up with them by becoming "friends"!
And me - sorry folks, too busy doing StrawbsWeb to have friends or a
MySpace .... [grin]
KITCHENER, 5 JUL 2007
Jon Connolly's gig in Kitchener Ontario is on its way to be the biggest
Strawbs gig for some very considerable time, with over 100 people
attending. There's a great poster for the show, which we'll be adding to
the website shortly and there'll be 100 signed copies of the poster
available on the night.
