STRAWBSWEBNEWS - SEPTEMBER 2007
Sent: 6 Sept 2007
After the excitement of the all-too brief UK tour culminating in the splendid show at Cropredy, the UK Acoustic tour has crept up on us, starting this Saturday in West Chiltington.
The Electrics hop on a plane for a Montreal festival appearance on 15th, leaving John Hawken behind in North America wheh they return, until of course the next time ....
And there's a range of Acoustic Strawbs and other shows between now and the end of the year, including the long-awaited Fire reunion.
On the record releases front - two new items to look forward to - Strawbs In New York, a classic 1975 show restored for release in the Witchwood Media Archives series; and at long last a Best of Hudson Ford CD.
More later in the month - usual e-mails pointing out any errors by return please from the usual eagle-eyed suspects ;-)

ELECTRIC STRAWBS PLAY MONTREAL FESTIVAL, 15 SEPT
Montreal Progressive Music Festival, Sat 15 Sept 2007 and Sun 16 Sept 2007, will feature the Hero & Heroine line-up of the Strawbs, well known prog rock heroes IQ, Swedish legends Samla Mammas Manna, and Quebec groups Nathan Mahl, Hamadryad and Ville Emard Blues Band. Further bands to be announced. Strawbs are playing on 15 Sept 2007.
Venue for the festival is the Salle Pierre Mercure at the Pierre Peladeau Center, Montreal, a beautiful and intimate auditorium seating just under 800, and with fantastic acoustics and sightlines. Conveniently located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, right next to the Berri-UQAM subway station, and only four street blocks away from Highway 20, with indoor parking and good access for people with limited mobility.
Tickets if there are any left from the ProgQuebec webstore at:
or admission.com: http://www.admission.com/
The Festival website is at: http://www.fmpm.net/
It is believed that the problems surrounding the release of this show in March 2006 at the Robin 2, Bilston which was filmed and recorded by Secret Films are clearing. We gather the intention is to release a CD version of this show by the end of the year with the video release to follow in the New Year. More news when I have it.
Strawbs In New York
Witchwood Media are working on a true "Live In America" release (unlike the one selling currently on Ebay, which is the 1977 UK recording which was shown by the BBC in early 1978 as a simultaneous stereo radio/TV broadcast. This one features the 1975 line-up. Released later this year.
We are also intending to release a best of Hudson Ford CD, subject to licensing.
Track listing is expected to be:
1 Pick Up The Pieces
3 Floating In The Wind
4 Burn Baby Burn
5 I Wanted You
6 Free Spirit
7 Crying Blues
8 Silent Star
9 When Love Has Overgrown
10 This Is Not The Way To End A War
11 Did Worlds Collide?
12 Tea Leaf
13 Hello, I Thought You Were Dead
15 Let Her Cry
16 Such A Day
17 Make No Mistakes
19 Mother Mild
20 As Hours Go By
21 I Don't Understand
No confirmed date for this, but it'll be great to have some Hudson Ford material on CD at last.
